We go to the first capital of Portugal – Guimarães city. It is believed that the first king, Afonso Henriques, was born here. The rich history of the city is reflected in the city’s many attractions: a majestic gothic monastery, a fortified castle and an elegant 15^th-century palace.

Filled with history, we will visit Braga, the “episcopal” capital of Portugal. We will find out how the country was created from the times of Romans to the present day, and we will visit the Cathedral, which is older than Portugal itself.

After that, we will go to a majestic Bom Jesus do Monte complex with one of the most impressive staircases in Europe. Lovers of beautiful photos, get ready!

It is unknown who was the first to make wine on the territory of modern Portugal. However, we know for certain that the Romans, who lived here for several centuries, mastered this tradition. Of course: in the valley of the Douro River, nature has created ideal conditions for growing grapes. That is where we will go: look at the grape terraces, taste wine and take a walk on a barge – the same one on which barrels of wine were transported from the valley to Porto (well, almost the same one). This estate has a history of 500 years and, what is especially fascinating, has belonged to the same family for centuries, and whose descendants still live here. The famous Italian architect Nicolo Nasoni, the same one who built the Clérigos complex in Porto, had a hand in the construction of the quinta (in Portuguese - an estate with a piece of land). This is a rare example of the so-called civil baroque, which we will visit to examine and study.

Well, as we find ourselves in the Douro River valley, it would be a crime not to stop by the winery and learn everything about the wine-making process, try it yourself and form your own opinion!

Coimbra of past centuries is a legacy of the ancient Romans, a place of tragic events associated with the name of the 9th King of Portugal, as well as the first and oldest university in Portugal. We will walk through the ornate streets of Coimbra, and the history of this city will come to life before our eyes.

Once, the Visigothic king Rodrigo, who was hunting in that area, was chasing a deer. The weather was bad, visibility was almost zero. In the approaching fog, the king did not notice how the chase led him to the edge of a cliff, where, as he thought, a deer had jumped, and where his horse was ready to rush... The king, in horror, began to pray to the Virgin Mary for the salvation of his soul, and, of course, his body. As soon as he uttered the last words, his horse immediately stopped, literally centimetres from the abyss. In gratitude for the rescue, the king ordered the installation of a chapel, which still stands. This was in the 8th century. However, what is most surprising is that in the 11th century, written confirmation of this legend was found in a monastery nearby. Believe it or not. Among the pilgrims of this place, Nazaré grew up.

Well, we move on to the famous spot, from where the whole world watches the desperate wave conquerors, and the waves here can reach 30 meters - this, for a minute, is the height of a 10-floor building.

Having been impressed by the beauties of nature, we go on to admire man-made beauties. Along the way we will learn why the Batalha Monastery is so important to Portuguese history. Having arrived at the place, we will walk along the corridors of the monastery, its courtyards, called cloisters, learn more about the Manueline architectural style typical to Portugal and look at the Unfinished Chapels - a unique place with amazing energy. Moreover, a monastery is not only the place where the monks lived. This is, so to say, a medieval city-forming enterprise, an entire town that provided for itself and fed neighbouring villages. It is also a storage of knowledge: the monks were engaged in the creation, rewriting and translation of manuscripts, and subsequently published books. Hence the knowledge that we have about past centuries has come to us thanks to such monasteries and their inhabitants.

First, what is bacalhau? This is not the Portuguese name for cod, as you might think. This is a method of salting and drying fish, which has been known since Viking times. It was this method that allowed sailors to sail far beyond the 7 seas, as they desperately needed provisions that could be stored for many months.

It is said that the Age of Discovery, when Portugal gradually became the first maritime empire in the world, would not have happened if the Portuguese had not discovered bacalhau in the first place.

We will follow the footsteps of great sailors and learn more about Portugal’s fishing industry. If you wish, we can take a ride on one of the traditional boats in the city, which is called the Portuguese Venice for the similarity of the canals and the large number of “gondoliers”.

Then we will move to the ocean shore, where, if you wish, you can try octopus - one of the best in Portugal! After lunch we will take a walk along the famous striped houses on the coast. Do you want spectacular photos? They are guaranteed!

Due to the peculiarities of their geographical location, the Portuguese always looked towards the ocean. And thanks to their courage, many amazing places appeared on the world map!

We set off to explore an island in the open ocean, which UNESCO has recognized as a world reserve of flora and fauna. Thousands of seagulls have chosen this island as their home. Here you can also see colonies of the slender-billed guillemot, a species that is currently under threat of extinction. This bird, which looks more like a small penguin, was chosen as a symbol of the reserve.

Berlenga is considered one of the best diving spots in Portugal. The water here has a greenish tint; the variety of fish is simply amazing; they can be observed even with the naked eye. Everyone will find something to do here: you can go trekking around the island, explore a 15th century fortress, bird watching or just spend time on a wild beach, swimming in turquoise water.

We will spend a night in Nazaré, a city world famous for its waves, the height of which reaches a 10-floor building. The next day we will go for a walk around the city and admire the views.
